How to Clean your Bling

How to Clean your Bling

16th Nov 2020

It is important to do routine maintenance on your personal jewelry collection.  Cleaning and polishing your jewelry will ensure that it will last the test of time.  It is also beneficial to check if anything is broken or if you are missing anything. Usually, there are some pieces that are tarnished beyond recognition, and let's be honest, you aren't wearing those.  Our jewelry naturally gets dirty from lotions, perfumes, sunscreen, and natural chemicals from our body.  We have some amazing products that will help you keep your jewelry clean and ready to wear.

First thing’s first, how you store your jewelry can really effect it. We suggest storing jewelry in a cool, dry spot that's out of sunlight. Tarnishing occurs in jewelry from the reaction of the metal to moisture, air, or specific chemicals.  Storing it correctly can help delay this process so you won't have to clean it as often.  We suggest storing your jewelry so you can actually see it.  You will be more inclined to wear it if you can actually find it.  A simple storage hack is to buy clear tackle boxes for earrings and delicate necklaces.  They are airtight, stackable, and transparent so you can see what is in each box.

When deciding which jewelry cleaner to use, keep in mind what kind of metal and stones you are cleaning.  Some stones, like opals and pearls are too fragile to be immersed in harsh chemicals.  Here are our top three cleaning products that we carry at Hermosa Jewelry.

1.  The Bling Brush: On the Go Cleaner

Bring your baubles to life with the Bling Brush. This natural jewelry cleaner is safe on all jewelry stones from fine to fashion and can be used at home or on-the-go. Simply twist, clean, polish, SPARKLE. No water needed! This must have product will have you saying OMG (#OhMyGems) and is great for beauty mavens, fashionistas, brides, and birthdays.  The Bling Brush cleans jewelry stones – real or faux.  Made in the USA, this gentle non toxic formula is ammonia free.

Rave Review:
“After cleaning my engagement ring with the bling brush, I realized how much lotion build up came off of it. Thanks to the tiny fibers of the brush, I was able to get behind the diamond in its setting to really clean the entire stone front and back. Knowing that it is safe to use on any stones makes me feel safer as it is an heirloom family ring.”

2.  The Glitzy Glove- Polishing Mit that keeps YOUR mits clean!

The Glitzy Glove safely removes—and helps prevent—tarnish from platinum, silver, gold, and brass jewelry, as well as plated pieces. Made in Texas, the mess-free cotton mitt is infused with a natural, soap-based formula. Just slip it on your hand and gently polish your jewelry until it shines again.  Do not wet or wash with water.  Once your Glitzy Glove is covered in black tarnish, it is time for a new one.

Rave Review:
“Perfect for polishing my dainty chain necklaces! Quick, easy, works well for fast clean ups when I don’t have time to pull out my jar of silver polish or my Sunshine Polishing Cloth AND keep my hands clean. 10/10 would recommmend!

3. Sunshine Polishing Cloths- Heavy Duty polishing

The original Sunshine cloth is our secret weapon to keep all of our jewelry shining! Impregnated with special micro-abrasives and a cleansing agent, the Sunshine cloth removes tarnish and grime to leave a lustrous, long-lasting finish. The long-lasting cloth keeps effectively polishing until it is worn through.

You’ll get great results on all precious metals, base metals, wood, ceramic, hard plastic and mirrors. The Sunshine cloth is the perfect tool to brighten everything!

Rave Review: I love my Sunshine Cloth! The results of this cloth are similar to using silver polishing cream. I cannot believe how well is works and how long it has lasted. I've been using my Sunshine Cloth for over 3 years now for all of my heavy polishing needs.

That rounds up our list of favorite jewelry cleaners.  You can purchase them in the Hermosa Jewelry shop or on our website.
